This page describes how Change.org handles personal information.

What Information Do You Need to Register?
To create an account on Change.org, whether to start a petition or support one, you only need to provide:
- Your name (can be a pseudonym)
- Your email address
- A password
Additional details like gender, date of birth, or workplace are not required.

*Supporting a petition requires entering a location, but you can provide your postal code and city/town name—no need for a full street address.
*Phone numbers are optional and are only requested for petition starters to ensure smooth support.

Can You Use a Pseudonym on Change.org?
Yes. Change.org allows you to use a nickname, stage name, or pseudonym to protect your privacy. Many people hesitate to sign petitions due to concerns about their names being visible, so we provide this flexibility.

What Information Is Displayed When You Sign a Petition?
Your registered name will appear on the petition page with a message like “XXX supported this petition △△ minutes ago.”
If you leave a comment while signing, it will appear at the comment section of the petition page.

*If you want to sign without being displayed, uncheck the box above the sign button that says: “Display my name and comment on this petition.”

What Information Is Shared with Petition Starters?
Petition starters can download a petition signature list to submit to decision-makers. This list includes:
1) The name registered on your account
2) Your approximate location and the postcode (from your IP or manually entered)
3) Your country
4) The date you signed
If you left a comment, it will also be included. No other personal information is shared.

Emails from Change.org
We send emails to help you make the most of your Change.org experience. These may include:
- Signature confirmation emails
- Notifications about new petitions similar to the ones you've signed
- Membership program invitation and updates
- Petition success tips (for petition starters)

You can update your notification settings anytime if you want to manage your email preferences.
*Important site-wide updates may still be sent, even if you opt out of emails.

Please note that Change.org never share your account information with third parties unless legally required. Your data is securely protected and only accessed internally for legitimate purposes.
